In this interactive seminar, Kathleen will teach us how she built InPrint, a scientific editing network, and how it helped support her research career. InPrint is a trainee-run scientific editing network and resource that provides free, confidential editing of scientific communications to the Washington University in St. Louis research community. InPrint editors work with clients to provide prompt, concrete edits and writing suggestions for manuscripts, abstracts, fellowship proposals, presentations, cover letters, and more. In addition, InPrint's Schema Design Service facilitates the creation of high-quality scientific illustrations for manuscripts and presentations. The group also hosts writing- and communication-related events and workshops such as writers cafes and illustration workshops to promote and improve scientific communication.

Organized in collaboration with the Office of Biomedical Education

Kathleen Schoch, PhD

Kathleen earned her doctorate in Physiology from the University of Kentucky, performing research on the mechanisms of neuronal death after traumatic brain injury under the mentorship of Dr. Kathryn Saatman. Transitioning into the field of neurodegeneration, she completed her postdoctoral training with Dr. Timothy Miller at Washington University in St. Louis. Now a Research Instructor in the Miller Lab, she focuses on employing antisense oligonucleotide strategies to reduce or modify toxic proteins in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in an effort to direct the development of novel treatment strategies. In addition to research, Kathleen enjoys mentoring new scientists and is Editor-in-Chief of InPrint, a trainee-run scientific editing resource at Washington University.
